Overview The Pastor of Family, Youth, and Children is responsible for the spiritual care, biblical instruction, and relational engagement of children, students, and families within the MVCBC community. This role exists to develop a thriving, gospel-centered ministry from birth through college age, with a particular emphasis on equipping families and volunteers, engaging across educational and cultural backgrounds, and aligning with the mission and vision of MVCBC. The Pastor will serve as a key leader in creating a unified discipleship pathway that fosters generational faithfulness, community inclusion, and transformational growth among families.
Primary Responsibilities 1. Family and Youth Ministry Leadership Develop and implement a holistic discipleship strategy from nursery through college age. Provide Christ-centered teaching, mentorship, and pastoral care to children, students, and their families. Create a culture of engagement that includes families from all backgrounds—public, private, and homeschool; cross-cultural and multi-generational. Partner with parents to equip them as primary disciplers in their homes. 2. Volunteer Leadership and Staff Oversight Recruit, train, and shepherd a qualified team of lay leaders and volunteers. Foster a team culture marked by trust, accountability, and joy in service. Provide oversight to any additional staff in youth and children's ministries. 3. Ministry Strategy and Administration Develop a comprehensive, long-term ministry strategy aligned with the MVCBC mission and vision. Prepare and manage an annual budget for all areas under leadership. Ensure all activities, events, and teachings reflect doctrinal faithfulness and a heart for unity in the church body. 4. Elder Responsibilities Serve as a member of the Elder Board, participating in the spiritual oversight and governance of MVCBC. 12 month evaluation period before officially serving. Uphold the doctrinal, moral, and relational qualifications outlined in Scripture (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:6–9). Contribute to congregational shepherding, preaching, and prayer as needed.
Qualifications A degree in ministry, theology, or a related field (or equivalent ministry experience). Must meet biblical qualifications for Elder leadership. Desire a minimum 5 years of experience in youth and/or children's ministry with demonstrated fruitfulness. A deep understanding of youth culture, family dynamics, and cross-cultural ministry. Ability to build relationships and lead across educational backgrounds and subcultures. Strong administrative, communication, and organizational skills. Wholehearted agreement with the MVCBC Statement of Faith and mission.

Expected Outcomes The Pastor of Family, Youth, and Children will be evaluated based on the following key outcomes that align with MVCBC's mission and the priorities outlined in this role: Thriving Discipleship Pathway A clearly defined and effectively implemented discipleship strategy is in place from nursery through college age, demonstrating biblical depth and age-appropriate engagement at each stage. Engaged and Growing Families Families feel supported, equipped, and actively engaged in the spiritual development of their children, as reflected in increased participation, relational connection, and spiritual growth in the home. Healthy Volunteer Culture A strong, trained, and spiritually healthy team of volunteers serves joyfully and reliably in children's and youth ministries. Turnover is low, and volunteers feel valued and equipped. Cross-Cultural and Multi-Educational Inclusion Ministry reflects intentional inclusion of families from diverse educational paths and cultural backgrounds, with a growing sense of unity and shared purpose across the body. Strategic Ministry Development A documented, multi-year ministry plan is in place and progressing, including a managed budget, regular evaluation of programs, and alignment with the overall mission and vision of MVCBC. Pastoral and Elder Integration The Pastor demonstrates faithful participation in Elder Board responsibilities, including shepherding, preaching, and governance, and is recognized by peers as a spiritually mature, trustworthy leader.
