Position Overview
Colonial Baptist Church is seeking a man who loves God, His word, and His people; whose default is expository preaching; growing men; whose character aligns with, 1Timothy 3:1-7,
Titus 1:5-9, and 1 Peter 5:1-4. Provide administrative leadership in all areas of church life and function. Leads collaboratively the deacons and church staff; foster a loving environment; assures weekly worship and prayer services. He must be personable, have a shepherd's heart, and a people person. The ideal candidate will be a visionary, an excellent communicator, with a grasp of church business, finances, operations, Christian education, and ministries. Believes in accountability and establish and maintains structures to achieve same.
Senior Pastor's Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
1. In charge of the welfare and oversight of the church and its organizations.
2. As a preacher/teacher, present well-organized, Bible-based sermons and lessons on Sundays and other scheduled worship services that edify, challenge, and encourage the church as well as promote the enthusiastic worship of God and His word. Possess the knowledge and desire to preach/teach the entire Bible from Genesis through Revelation.
3. Leads the congregation to follow the Great Commission.
4. Disciple the congregation through Bible study with the aim to develop Christian maturity and depth of Biblical understanding with life applications.
5. Uphold the integrity of the doctrines, the constitution, and by-laws of CBC.
6. Provide pastoral care, or assign a designee, to visit the sick, elderly, and bereaved families.
7. The pastor shall, with the Deacons, oversee the pastoral care and edification of the church members.
8. Assures that counseling is available to congregants.
9. Assures the observation of church ordinances on a regular basis.
10. Perform (or via designee) weddings, baby dedications, funerals as requested.
11. Ensures multigenerational ministry.
12. Provide primary oversight and direction to the church office, overseeing the church calendar maintenance, representing the church to visitors and other persons who contact the church, serving in other reasonable activities relative to the church office.
13. Maintain church office hours for the benefit of all church members/non-members and the related business of the church.
14. Collaborate with deacons to provide a plan for a qualified person to fulfill pulpit duties in his absence for vacation, sickness, etc.
15. Promote a robust music ministry.
16. Facilitate quarterly church business meetings.
Qualifications:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited seminary or divinity school. (A master's degree preferred.)
Ordained and Licensed Baptist Minister.
Supports the Baptist Faith and Message (version 2000).
At least five years of experience as a Senior Pastor. (Preferred)
Experience in managing staff and primary supervisor and administrator of the church staff.
Possess Biblical qualifications as stated in I Timothy 3:1-7* and I Peter 5:3.
Possess interpersonal and communication skills. Proficiency in computer and technology skills preferred.
Possess strong leadership and strategic thinking abilities: Should have a clear vision and the ability to convey plans to the church.
Possess proven character and integrity, maintaining a vital personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer, as well as having proper priorities at home with family, exhibiting an example of a Godly balanced life.
Senior Pastor must be above reproach and the husband of one wife, sober minded and have self-control. He should be respectable and hospitable and be able to teach. *
Senior Pastor must manage his own household well, keeping his children under control with dignity and grace. (I Timothy 3:4) *
The Senior Pastor must not be arrogant or quick tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain. *
The Senior Pastor shall be upright, holy, and disciplined. *
The Senior Pastor must not be a recent convert and well thought of by outsiders.
Be accountable to God, the congregation and the deacons who have oversight.
